This year's Juno Awards were held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Hosting the Junos was Nelly Furtado. Her newest CD came out in 2006, and hit sky high on the charts, well-timed for her hosting of the Junos.
Billy Talent (below) opened the show by singing Billy Talent 2. Billy Talent had 5 nominations and they won two awards. They were tied with Nelly Furtado for nominations but she won more. Keisha Chante was nominated for best R&B or Soul CD but she didn't win or get to perform. I was really disappointed, I wanted to see her sing because she is one of my big favourites. Chante is coming out with a new line of diamond jewellery.
The Junos were the first big music show that I have ever been too. Before the show actually started, everyone there could see Nelly standing way up high in the stands but we didn't know what she was doing there. Nelly Furtado (right) wore many different outfits and Canadian designers made everything she wore. Then she literally flew in wearing a very fancy bird costume singing her first hit "I'm like a bird" but instead sang "I like Saskatoon." Very catchy huh?
K-os got tried to smash his guitar, but ended up only knocking over some of the equipment on the stage! Oops! On a CBC radio show, K-os (left) told the people that he just got too excited, and he lost control. Ha. Ha.
The part of the show that I like best was Three Days Grace. I thought the real fire in the background was very cool. Also hearing one of my favorite songs live was sweet! Three Days Grace sang their song Pain. Most of the people I saw enjoyed that part a lot.
There were a lot of events to psyche up Saskatoon for the Junos. Such as the Fan Fair and many others. Fan Fair was the biggest one. The Fan Fair is where fans could go and see Nelly Furtado, Nickleback (left), from not too far away, Hanna, Alberta; Keisha Chante, Billy Talent and some others. Fans could get autographs and pictures. People looked for the stars whenever they were downtown. There was also many free items advertising the Junos. On our way out of the show, I picked up 2 SaskTel lanyards, with free passes to an After Show party. They were left tied to the railings coming out the building. We didn't go to the party, but they are a cool souvenir!
At various sites, you could buy Juno T-shirts, sweaters, bunnyhugs and hats. "Bunnyhugs" is an actual Saskatchewan word. It means the kind of hooded sweatshirt with the pocket across the front, so of course they had to make that kind, and include an iPod pocket.
There was even a $300 briefcase! You could also buy them if you actually went to the Junos. There were two booths set up. When I was there, there was a lot of pushing and shoving and a lot of the items sold out very fast!
Many people came from all over Canada to see the Junos. Hotels booked up very fast. To many people the Junos were a success. Who knows where it will be held next year?! Or who knows who will be hosting it?! I think Nelly did an awesome job hosting! I hope all of you go next year to see the Junos.
